Our history

From a wooden hut in 1935 to our 90th anniversary.

In 1934 Edgware was still a village, with open fields all around. With the coming of the Underground, roads and houses spread. A group of local Christians began meeting for prayer, and took the first steps towards a church. Camrose Baptist Church was constituted on 24 February 1935, and its first building was a wooden hut.

The present church was planned as the church hall. Building began on 27 July 1935 at a cost of £3,800 and opened on 22 February 1936. Our current hall, lounge and kitchen were added in September 1976.

A church is about people, not buildings. Some who have worshipped here trained as Baptist ministers, others went abroad to serve, and young people have grown in faith through our groups. On 23 February 2025 we celebrated our 90th anniversary, thanking God for his faithfulness.
